20 Years, Tariffs & Tough Lessons: A Personal Update from Natura Soy

Big Changes at Natura Soy: A Personal Note from Colleen

Hi friends,

Colleen here — founder of Natura Soy. I wanted to share some updates with you as we head into our favorite season: fall.

For 20 years, we’ve been making non-toxic, chemical-free candles and home products right here in Okotoks, Alberta. What started as a kitchen table project has grown into a local, family-run business that ships across Canada, filling homes with cozy, clean-burning scents you can feel good about.

One of my favorite things over the years has been hearing from so many of you about how our products have become part of your daily rituals — your morning coffee with a candle glowing nearby, your evening bath with calming scents, or the cozy feeling of your home filled with natural fragrance. Knowing we’re a part of those little everyday moments means the world to us.

But here’s the honest truth:

Why We’re Making Changes

Running a small business like this isn’t easy — especially over the past few years. We’ve weathered:

  • Rising costs and new tariffs on materials

  • Shipping rate increases we’ve absorbed as long as we could

  • Tough seasons and hard lessons (including some bad advice that nearly cost us everything)

We’ve fought to stay true to our values while keeping prices fair. As a consumer myself, I want our products to stay as affordable and accessible as possible. This business has never been about becoming a billionaire — it’s about sharing what we create with people who care about what goes into their homes.

But to keep the lights on, the ingredients clean, and the quality you expect, we need to make a few changes.

Starting October 1st:

  • Our free shipping threshold moves to $99 (currently $90).

  • A few product prices will adjust slightly.

We’re sharing this early because we want to be transparent. If you’ve been thinking about stocking up on your favorites or trying a new fall scent, now’s the time before the changes go live.

A Note About Shipping & Canada Post

There’s one more thing I need to share: Canada Post is experiencing strike-related disruptions, which means we’re unable to ship to PO Boxes at this time.

If you typically use a PO Box for delivery, please consider providing an alternate address — a workplace, friend, or local store — so we can get your order to you smoothly. We’ll keep you posted as things change, but for now, this will help avoid delays and missed packages.

Thank You for 20 Years

We’re so grateful for your support — for choosing small, local, non-toxic, and Canadian-made products. These updates help ensure we can keep doing what we love for another 20 years (and beyond).

Thank you for letting our family business be part of your home.

With gratitude,
Colleen & the Natura Soy Team
